چکیده

The degradation of materials due to corrosion induced by microorganisms, such as bacteria, is generically designed as microbial induced corrosion. This capacity of bacteria has been used for micromachining some metals by creating on the surface of the metal masks that only exposed the surface to be machined. Due to their small size the bacteria are able to create microchannels on the exposed area. Usually, this processing is made by extremophiles microorganisms onto metals such as copper or aluminium. In this work we report the use of two strains of bacteria, not reported in the literature, for the biomachining of stainless steel and its characterization by microscopy techniques.

Electrochemical Characterization of a Martensitic Stainless Steel

This paper focused on the characterization of electrochemical behavior of a martensitic stainless steel in the acidic solutions. For this purpose, electrochemical parameters were derived from potentiodynamic polarization, Mott Schottky analysis and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. The potentiodynamic polarization results showed that corrosion current density of AISI 420 ...

Applications of Impedance Plane and Magnetic Differential Permeability in Microstructural Characterization of AISI D2 Tool Steel

Two nondestructive electromagnetic/magnetic techniques including hysteresis loop and eddy current methodologies have been used to characterize microstructural changes of AISI D2 cold work tool steel as a result of quench and tempering treatments. To measure the fraction retained austenite in quenched microstructure, six specimens were austenitized in the range  of 1000-1130 °C. Samples austenit...

Topographical Anisotropy and Wetting of Ground Stainless Steel Surfaces

Microscopic and physico-chemical methods were used for a comprehensive surface characterization of different mechanically modified stainless steel surfaces. The surfaces were analyzed using high-resolution confocal microscopy, resulting in detailed information about the topographic properties. In addition, static water contact angle measurements were carried out to characterize the surface hete...

Synthesis and characterization of nHA-PLA composite coating on stainless steel by dip-coating process for biomedical applications

316L stainless steel is the most commonly used metallic material in the manufacture of orthopedic implants. To achive better properties metal implants often coated with biocomposites. A sol–gel method was used for coating of Poly lactic acid (PLA)/Hydroxyapatite nanopowder (nHA) on stainless steel 316L substrate. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) wer...
